GREETINGS ...
...from Derek Carson, DDS.
I'm writing this intro in the first person, as it's a story about the several-decade journey of how we became the Carson and Acasio Dental Group … the leading Oxnard Dentist.
50 Years and Going Strong
My father, Dr. LeRoy Carson, and my mother Beverly, founded Carson DDS in 1972. Our first location was in a building on the corner of A St. and Deodar Ave. across the street from our present Oxnard location.
As the practice took hold, and blossomed, we bought our own building in 1980. Our new dental office was finished in 1985. Over the years, we have modernized the facility for our patients comfort, and have added the latest state-of-the-art equipment so we could be on the forefront of dentistry. We have always strived to exceed the industry standard of care.
In 1994 we were the first practice to offer digital x-rays. We added our dental IV Sedation license in 1996 to assist putting patients with extreme dental anxiety to sleep, which was very hard to get and new in its time. And, in 2006, we purchased a 3D CT scanning system which has since been upgraded with the latest and greatest technology. Then in 2007, we were one of the first dentists in the area to offer same day crowns when we installed a Cerec CAD/CAM system with a milling machine. Now it’s the standard of care and expected in dentistry.
Thus, the “Carsons” are known for providing a superior level of dental care in Ventura County which could rival any dentistry outside of our area especially when it comes to technology. We are now offering 3D printing of dentures, retainers, night guards and many more. Come by and see our newest tech. Many of our Patients love to watch their teeth being made in front of them and love it when their involved.I began college at the University of Akron in Ohio on a tennis scholarship. After graduating from Arizona State University in 1998, I made the choice to pursue a career in dentistry, and was awarded a dentistry degree in 2004 from the University of California in San Francisco, then I joined with my parents in their practice where we became Carson & Carson Dentistry.
My patients’ comfort level has always been a priority for me. I observed my father practice sedation dentistry for those who are extremely anxious or overly sensitive to pain. Many dentists still don’t offer this procedure.
I’ve always been extra cautious about pain and anxiety management, as I myself am a dental chicken. Thus, in 2005 I earned my Conscious IV/IM/Oral Sedation degree from the USC School of Dentistry and was licensed for administering Moderate Sedation by the Dental Board of California.
My parents and I have been lifelong residents of Camarillo. Thus, in 2006, I purchased from a retiring dentist Spanish Hills Dentistry in Camarillo … a boutique dentistry which compliments our Deodar location very well so we could serve our home community.
Fast forward to 2022. After having served dental patients for more than 50 years, my parents decided to step back from working full time and enjoy retirement. If you knew my dad, he'd rather be working. But when you get to a certain age, the time comes to take a break and relax a bit.
Fortunately, from about 2016 we had a brilliant young dentist on our staff who is well-versed in all aspects of dentistry… Dr. Mike Acasio. As I had a great deal of respect for his skills, passion, and shared commitment to our patients, I invited him to join me in the practice, and we formed Carson & Acasio Dental Group in 2022.
With both of us growing up in the area, we are a family-oriented community practice. Our objective is to focus our efforts to ensure that our practice is the best in the business, not necessarily the biggest. We like to spend quality time with our patients, so we can learn about them, and so they don’t feel they are being rushed in and out of our office.
No matter what a patient's needs are … each person who walks through our door needs, deserves, and receives our full and undivided attention. As we develop relationships with our patients, we feel it is critical that they don't avoid visiting us when they need to, or put off seeking dental care … whether it is routine check ups or a dental issue which needs attention.
Mike and I firmly believe, and are committed to, our mantra: compassionate excellence in dentistry.
As you wander through our website to see what we offer, and learn about our professional philosophy, we hope that the information provided for each service, and shared in our blog articles, we would like the opportunity for you to become part of the Carson family of happy patients.
Thank you for reading our story.
