Carson & Acasio can make a dreaded dental visit a happy experience. Well, almost. No one likes facing problems with their mouth, teeth or jaw. But these guys help one struggle through the process by mitigating one's fear, anxiety and pain with sleep sedation anesthesia.
I should know. I truly struggle with being confined to a dental chair for an extended period of time. For me, it's less about pain and more about confinement (claustrophobia and anxiety).
Do you remember football broadcaster and former NFL coach, John Madden? He had a fear of flying ... he didn't like to be couped up. I can't imagine what Madden would be like in a dentist's chair without sleep sedation? Neither do I like being out of control, which is another phobia.
Sleep sedation therapy basically eliminates anxiety as well as discomfort. The drug cocktail that is administered intravenously combines an amnesiac with pain reducers and one dozes off into a semi-conscious state. You won't feel or remember a thing.
Bill Engvall, a stand-up comedian, did a routine on a colonoscopy where similar sedation is used. When he became fully conscious he asked the nurse when they would start the procedure. She replied, "Mr. Engvall, you are done and can go home."
There are some important considerations if you choose sleep sedation dentistry:
You have to have someone bring you to the clinic and drive you home.
You may be able to feel the sedative effects for up to 24 hours. And you will be unsteady on your feet for a while.
Among other things, you may not wish to make important decisions.
Our doctors will make sure you aren't allergic to the medications.
It isn't inexpensive.
But take it from me, sleep sedation dentistry is the bomb.
If you don't choose to go this route ... I didn't on my last visit where Dr. Mike removed three teeth ... one which had attached itself to the jaw bone. Dr. Mike did a masterful (and gentle) job simply using a combination of nitrous oxide and lidocaine. I was blown away at how I came through the procedure smelling like a rose.
Carson & Acasio Dentistry offers several choices for pain management depending upon you, the individual. Above it all, the doctors want you to be totally comfortable, and not shy away from coming to the clinic for your procedures.
